It's usually a wonderful occasion when a child is born, especially to loving parents, but sometimes -- and, it would seem, increasingly -- babies find themselves with unusual names. Sometimes these names are the result of homage paid to illustrious, eccentric relatives. But sometimes they seem to bear no explanation at all. Why the turn back to yuppie-ish, even made-up, cobbled together, sounds-hip-so-it-"is" baby names? Why is the current crop of alumni-announced USC babies teeming with monikers like these?
Vance (M)

On Jaden, on Payden, on Kismet, on Britzen! No offense, guys, but...shudder.
well, you've nailed this one! How about Brittany and Breann? Sounds like a kennel of poorly behaved spanials. Alas, the continuing decline.

Spell the listed names, or any name really, with a Y where it ought not be, and you have current Southern naming trends amongst the WASP crowd.

Recent science fiction is going to look really outdated in a couple of decades just on this basis. "Buck" is out, "Graysen" is in.
