The inevitable dare to those who would praise the old "IDF hottie" pictures from the late, not-so-great war with Hezbollah is here. But you can't see these "232 Nude Photos of National Guard Women," because the Louisville Courier-Journal has declined to release them. Still, isn't the ebullient self-expression to be commended? It's hard, as the President has told us, to fight a war. Exertion takes its toll. Stress -- the stress of being always maybe-blown up somewhere in "enemy" territory, combined with a hot climate and heavy uniforms, leads to celebratory hot and heavy like the night leads to the day.
Or maybe not. But who are you to say? Who are you to impose your civilian mores on The Troops? Especially these female troops, who have been breaking barriers ever since they first decided to serve their country (which, I don't need to add, is more than you can say for yourself, eh? When was the last time you thought about enlisting -- or at least earning money for college learning skills that'll get you a job after graduation, and then winding up enlisted?). And what about the boys back home? Or certain girls? This is a victimless crime, here, people, in a cruel and dangerous world! Patriotism is about victory -- and here, everyone wins!
And so the relativism and radical creed of the authenticity of the expressive self dovetails so perfectly with the gag order of supporting the troops. The point of supporting the troops, in case anyone had forgotten, was that the United States Armed Forces are the physical embodiment of the virile dignity of the nation (why they wear uniforms, march ritually, etc.). When any enlisted personnel fall short of said dignity -- well, there goes my support for said personnel. Sorry, girls.
